Bryan Dunklin primarily plays keyboards in the Cat Daddies.
His maternal grandmother had perfect pitch and his mother was a Vassar music major.
But Bryan's musical talent comes from his father's side of the family.
Bryan began playing the piano at the age of six, but switched to guitar at the age of ten because he didn't like reading and playing only classical music. Unfortunately, his guitar teacher also had him reading and playing only classical music. On the verge of giving up music altogether, his guitar teacher finally taught him how to play three chords and let Bryan play some popular music. Since 40% of all rock and roll music can be played using just three chords, Bryan suddenly became a rock star. He started playing bass guitar with the Four Fates in Pine Bluff, Arkansas at the age of 13. By the time he was in high school in the late '60s, he played lead guitar with Loose Gravel, a soul music ensemble which included a female singer, four backup singers, a four horn section, drums, a bass, and an organ. The drummer for Loose Gravel, Sandy Sanders, went on to play with David Clayton Thomas and Blood, Sweat and Tears. 35 years later, Bryan now primarily plays keyboards, but he occasionally gets the chance to play a little lead guitar and bass guitar with the Cat Daddies. He usually sings the high part of the backup harmony line.
Bryan recently signed a contract with Sony Records to do a series of jazz piano albums. Now all he has to do is to get Sony to sign.
It's his ambition to retire from law practice and play cocktail piano at a bar in the California wine country or at a ski resort in Colorado.
